Reigning by Grace Ministries was started by Ben & April Naughton. We live in Southwest Florida, have been married since 2007, and have four children. Ben started in ministry in 1999 and over the years has been invovled in youth ministry, traveled as an evanglist with a heart for revival, and pastored a local church. Below is our full story if you would like to get to know us better.
Jesus said, "the harvest is plentiful , but the laborers are few." At Reigning by Grace Ministries, our mission is to equip and mobilize the Church to reach their cities and communities & bring those who don't know the Lord to a saving relationship with Christ.
We believe as God's people receive a revelation of Christ and Him crucified with an understanding of who they are in Him, through all that Jesus accomplished for them by His finished work on the cross, and as they are filled with the Holy Spirit and fire, that they will be empowered through the gift of righteousness and the abundace of grace to reign in life and bring light to the world.
At Reigning by Grace Ministries, we believe in the inspiriation and authority of the Bible, both Old & New Testaments, in the One True God existing in three seperate persons as the Holy Trinity, the divinity of Jesus Christ and salvation only through Him, in the Holy Spirit empowering believers to live Godly lives and the baptism in the Holy Spirit expressed through speaking in other tongues.
My greatest credentials are my family. My wife April and I met while doing ministry many years ago and we've been married since 2007. We have three children, Josiah, Landon, and Bella all who have had an encounter with God for themselves, put faith in Jesus, and been filled with the Holy Spirit.
We live in Southwest Florida and at times in our house you will hear yelling, whining, kids fighting, and seeing us as parents feeling worn out. However there are also times of laughing, playing games, and bedtime with hugs and prayers. I've helped coach my boys baseball teams, my oldest son Josiah likes going to the gym with me, I take my daughter Bella to gymnastics and dance class at times (my wife does this more than me), and bring Landon to guitar lessons.
We enjoy going out to the country to enjoy peace and quiet on some land we own, going out to eat as a family, and taking off to the mountains of North Carolina at times. In summary we are living life the best we can while loving Jesus.
Sometimes I'm put off by ministry bios and how over spiritual some ministers try to make themselves sound. I feel, after walking with the Lord for decades now, that what impresses me more about ministers rather than all the ministry achievements (and I will share some of mine below), you know... the attendance at their meetings, all the miracles and healings in their services, the great prophetic words and revelation they've received, and the degrees of ministry attained, etc... what really impresses me more is how their kids are doing and that they and their wife (or husband) really love each other.
Don't get me wrong, I love revival, the ministry of the gospel, and signs and wonders confirming the Word, but what speaks to my heart more about someone is do they play games with their kids (or grandkids) and go out for date nights with their wife (or husband). To me living your faith and walking with Jesus in that, the real things of day to day family life, is the most important thing over the platform and accolades of ministry. Maybe you've been around in ministry a long time as well and feel the same. That is why I have shared this first. The rest is just periphial.
I came to the Lord in 1998. I didn't grow up in church. My teenage years I was raised by my mother in a single parent home and spent most of my High School years partying, drinking, and drugging while trying to make it in baseball. I had left Fort Myers, FL to go to play college baseball in Alabama. In my first week there God put people in my life to share the gospel with me on campus and in my collge cafeteria, to the answer of my mom's prayers, I prayed to receive Christ as a freshman in college. I began to attend a small pentecostal church in the area and in a little over a year I had become their volunteer youth pastor. At that time my passion for persuing baseball was dwindling and my desire for ministry was increasing more and more.
In 2001 I transfered to Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida and in 2003 graduated with a degree in Pastoral Ministries. Shortly after graduating I was hired as a youth pastor in Fort Myers, FL at a new church plant. During the next few years we would see a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit as young people were touched by the power of God. We had a pretty cool looking youth room for service but at the same time would see students get touched by the Holy Spirit and give their lives to Christ. Kids would be under the power of God for hours sometimes, we had demons come out of kids, and powerful times in the Word and worship. It truly was a season of extended revival among those youth.
After youth pastoring and seeing the fire of God touch young people the Lord lead me to begin traveling as an evangelist with a heart for revival in the local church. I was able to minister in churches in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, & Minnisota. Outside of the United States I was able to preach in churches and hold an outdoor crusade in the country of Nicaragua and travel twice to South Africa. It was during this time that I came to a greater New Testament understanding of grace through Christ crucified and the finished work of the cross that set me free from a lot of religious legalism and works. Since that time it has been my life mission to bring a message of grace and the finished work of the cross with a demonstraton of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
Traveling as an evangelist was exciting, but also had its challenges. My wife and I, who had met when I was youth pastoring, were married and we now had our first child, Josiah. An opportunity opened for us to pastor a small local church in Fort Myers and I felt it was the Lord's direction for our next season of life. Over the next five years we pastored the church and saw some growth. There were some remarkable healings, times of the Holy Spirit's presence, and good meetings with guest speakers. A strong message of grace and New Testament truth helped many know who they were in Christ. We experienced the joys and heartaches of walking with the people the Lord has entrusted to your care through the ups and downs of life.
At the end of this season the Lord strongly put on my heart a new direction for our lives and a real gift of faith to see it come to pass. After pastoring I began to move into the realm of business as a real estate investor. The goal was to become financially free so that no matter what the Lord called us to do we would not need to depend upon a church salary or offering and to have our time back from having to work a job so we could enjoy life.
At this time I really didnt know anything about creating wealth. All you would hear in some churches is that if you would give and sow in the offering you would prosper, but I never heard anything concrete on how to build wealth in the church, or even in school for that matter. I purposed in my heart that I would read one business book every two days. I walked into the bookstore, and rather than going into the Christian section as I usually would, I walked into the business isle, said a quick prayer, and then saw the book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki. That book, outside of the Bible, changed my life more than any other book I read and set my life on a trajectory for the next 10 years.
I continued to read and learn real estate investment and business strategy, and honestly for 7 or 8 years didnt even read a "Christian" book. Over that time we have been able to become investors in multi-family rental properties as well as doing flips at times. I built, with a business partner, a property management company that grew tremendously even through the 2020 Covid shutdowns. My wife has also become a successful realtor in Southwest Florida, helping many people buy or sell their home in this area. In many ways this time in business has helped me become a better leader and mature as a man, husband, and father, that I dont think would have happened had I stayed pastoring the church.
During that time of business there were times of ministry here and there. I would be asked to preach at a church occasionally, or would do a Bible study for a short time, but what was most suprising was I was asked by a pastor to consider being their youth pastor. I was 41 at the time and figured my youth pastor days were behind me. However the Holy Spirit had other plans, and, while doing business and real estate investment, I youth pastored for about 2 years. Once again we were able to see Jesus touch young people with His presence. It rekindled and reactivated the call of God that was always there.
It's now been some years since that last assigment. We've continued to see God prosper us in real estate, however we feel the prompting of the Lord once again for us to "launch out into the deep." We know that a new season is in front of us again, one that is about the harvest of souls for the Lord and seeing God's people set free and filled with the Holy Spirit. We may not know all of what the Lord has in store for us, but this is our story so far, and my hope is that with this you would know a bit of my, and my families, heart. We give all glory to God, and it was all by His grace.
